The border crossing was easy and the countryside is beautiful. We're camping on the shore of Lake Peten Itza, happy after a swim in the clear blue waters. More to come...
Took a tour around Lake Peten Itza on Google Earth. There are tons of really nice pictures of lake scenery there. What town are you near? I lived the first 18 years of my life in San Benito -------- Texas, that is. San Benito, Guatemala looks about the same size the Texas city I used to call my home town.
The satellite imagery on Google Earth is low res just south of El Remate, the South Eastern quadrant of the lake. According to some travel sites there is internet available in some of the hotels in Remate. La Casa De Don David looks like a nice place to get a break from camping for a few days, and has internet in the lobby. Check out LaCasaDeDonDavid.com.
